You know what I love best about Microsoft? Their products don't even work properly with other products of theirs.
In the past month or two I have now twice had weird problems with Microsoft optical mice on my XP computer. First there was the intermittent "disconnect-connect" of a piece of hardware, which turns out to have been the mouse, after which the mouse mysteriously stopped responding (or even lighting up) altogether. Was it a dead mouse? Nope. I'm using it on my OS X computer as we speak, no trouble whatsoever. Was it a dead USB port? Nope, everything else, including the mouse I was using on my Mac (also a Microsoft optical mouse, slightly more advanced though) works just fine in that and every other slot. Was it a temporary thing? No. Swapping the borked mouse back in...didn't work. What. The. Fuck.
Now tonight the mouse I switched in for the original, it started behaving oddly. For a bit the cursor wouldn't respond, then I swapped it into another USB port at which point the system decided to install a new driver for it. After that the optical sensor was blinking very oddly and the cursor moved about as though drunk, with odd lags. Then later it went offscreen and all I could do was right-click and bring up a contextual menu. I just installed the latest driver and maybe that will help. I hope so.

*sigh*
'Puters, man. They're out to get us.
