Well, I can't say as things have been all that exciting lately, but I will say this. I think I will be beating Neverwinter Nights 2 tomorrow. I really feel like the pace picks up dramatically with each new act. And I don't just mean in terms of urgency of missions and so forth. Act 1 has more areas than Act 2 and significantly more...

Okay, so this is really pretty inconsequential, but it's kind of freaking me out. Yesterday I was off work and just got my paycheck direct deposited. So I popped onto Amazon to snag presents for my mom's birthday (the 1st of July...probably not going to reach her in time, but they'll be close) and along the way decided I had enough spending money to treat...

Hehe. And, if they come in the form of sweet deals, and uber-timely service, so much the better.

I'm not going to change my screen name. I realized that I don't want to post and not even know who in the heck *I* am. I've been startled by name and profile pic changes of friends before. It's a little disconcerting when that happens.

I suppose I ought to update my journal again. So yeah. Hasn't been that eventful lately. I've been sucked headlong back into NWN2. Sucker runs beautifully on quite high settings now that I have SLI. And the annoying fight that discouraged further progress went easily the next time around. It's got a lot of depth and a lot of neat things to do and kill....

Aiee. The new "My SG" page is a graphic design nightmare. It's ugly and it's poorly laid out. I guess it's slightly more functional and more user customizable, but these things need to come in a package that works. But then I can't say as a lot of the post 4.0 changes have thrilled me. (Though I did like the original 4.0 design, unlike a...

It's just kind of a meme that's been dogging my heels for a bit, but, yeah, montestruc was the first, followed by some rather lame one-note jokes in Silliness.

As with the "humorless" thing, I just write a blog about it when I start to get annoyed so that I can see how ridiculous it all is and not actually get annoyed. It's nothing to be concerned about.

Well, I'm of mixed feelings right now. I received my latest round of replacement hardware from Newegg on Monday but didn't install them until tonight, partly due to being busy, but mostly due to being really nervous that it still wouldn't work and I'd have to go through the whole rigamarole AGAIN. And that would really, really have sucked.

Fortunately, no such thing happened. I...

I need to dual boot. Dual boot if you can. Vista, while far better than I could have anticipated, has managed to enrage me and irritate me to the point of reinstall 4 times (in less than 3 months). Every time I upgrade to a new version of my antivirus, the antivirus fails to start until I reformat and start over. AND, every time I do a clean install, one more program fails to work properly. First it was LCDstudio for my G15 keyboard, then it was Photoshop, then it was Last.fm. Luckily I got photoshop working the final clean install - but the other two are still out of commission for the forseeable future. Lame.

I guess I'm not entirely sure what advantages this has over the (wholly illegal) BitTorrent route.

It's simply a large catalogue of items that you can stream instantly. I don't know if any advantages exist per say, but it is a different venue all together. An example of it's practical use in my life is at work. My employer doesn't want me utilizing bit torrent to download pirated media, but if I'm streaming material from some servers in Sweden, he couldn't care less. I have the option of downloading something at my house and burning it to disk or transferring it via jump drive but now I don't have to.

I've also found some shows at http://www.tv-links.co.uk that I've never been able to find on bit torrent (or are extremely poorly seeded) like Alf, Fraggle Rock, Earth 2 (I can't believe anyone even remembers that), The Adventures of Brisco County Jr, etc. Note: I'm not claiming that I'm actively seeking to watch any of those shows.

It wont be a replacement for bit torrent, but it will still be something I use every now and then. I just wanted to share.

Well, I beat Bully on Thursday. Kinda anti-climactic, actually. Not so much because of the nature of the last two missions or the ending. They were suitable end-game material. I just hadn't realized that I was only like fifteen minutes away from the end. If I'd known I would have just stayed up and finished it. So I've finally finished a Rockstar game all by...

Well, you can always hold that over me. I've never come close to finishing a Rockstar game. The furthest I've gone is just far enough to open all the islands/areas, then I just do my own thing until I get bored, then move on to some other game and never look back.
pepelepew:
Congrats. That is one more Rockstar game than I have beaten.

I didn't think I'd ever have my mom chastise me for not playing enough videogames. And yet, this Sunday when we were talking on the phone, it did. It's not as strange as it sounds, though. One of my more favored potential careers is that of videogame reviewer. I don't really have any idea how I might get there, but it seems to me that...

I am in awe. Some insane person assembled a torrent that contains .avis of every single Doctor Who episode (to the point of its creation, anyway), from the pilot through the second season of the new show. Granted, in some cases these are reconstructions of lost material, as there's no source for a perfect complete set. But there's something there for every episode. It's 202...

I'm starting to see why so many people go around all day with a portable music player going and headphones on. Having music along has made things I really didn't much look forward to surprisingly pleasant. For example, yesterday I discovered it was an intensely nice day and actually went out for a walk along River Road (aka the Mississippi River Boulevard), to the accompaniment...

That sounds interesting. I'll probably look into it when (well, if) my income dysfunction stops being so oppressive.

I'm bad with libraries. I actually still have unreturned library books from 1982. I really, really, really can't be trusted.

On a somewhat more negative note:

Some of you may recall that I've been a bit dismissive of the PSP in the past. I haven't really changed my mind. I was initially a huge PSP booster and I really wanted one. At least until I saw the enormous price tag and the anemic game selection. And although I love the one I have now, I...

When I worked for EB, I deliberately told people that the PSP sucked and the DS was way better. Not that I have anything against the PSP - I have one and I like some of the stuff it has - but it just doesn't compare to the DS, imho. The people that don't know the difference have not tried the two and are probably better off being ignorant - obviously you have tried both and you've chosen the right path.

DS for pres.

I love my PSP. I want to love it and squeeze it and cuddle it and..

Well, anyway. Knocked it up to firmware 3.03 on Thursday in anticipation of my copy of Liberty City Stories arriving from Gamefly the following day. Was out all day then, but when I arrived home in the early AM I found it waiting. I'd been hoping and crossing my fingers...

My long-winded response here sort of says what I was thinking, but if there's anything you want to see me write about, I'd love to check it out. I prefer Science-Fiction that straddles boundries, meaning that I'm more of a JG Ballard guy than an Asimov, though I grew up on the latter.

Picked up my PSP today after work and rushed home full of joy and good cheer. It is in perfect working order, and came with everything advertised. I've yet to be burned on an eBay transaction, but it's always nice anyhow when things go smoothly. It's also a very neat piece of hardware. I still think Sony put it out at too high a price,...

David Wingrove's "Chung Kuo" series: THANK YOU!! My fiance' especially thanks you. She has never had the chance to read it while unemployed. We tried looking it up on Amazon. It must have been out of print for awhile because the books as well as the recent spate of trade paperbacks are EXPENSIVE!

Thanks again.

You should pickup Locoroco if you're in to that sort of thing. It's surprisingly fun. If you can find someone that carries imported titles (or just want to ebay), pick up Breath of Fire 3. It was only released in Europe, but its one of the best rpgs I've ever played.
