Well, I had three days with Oblivion. And it was veritably the coolest thing in the entire world.

And then my computer stopped working AGAIN.

There are not enough swear words in six languages to handle how I feel about computers right now.
pepelepew:
Ah that sucks. That the way I feel about my PS2.

Just decided to get off my ass and start posting. I've been a member there for about a year and half. blush

I have Oblivion now. Don't expect to see much from me for a while.

First and biggest news: on Saturday I hit General Nanosystems and picked up a Zalman ZF700-Cu VGA cooler. Their price is, as far as I can tell, ~15-20 bucks above SRP for that item, and I wouldn't have paid it if I'd known anywhere in town to buy it for less, but I don't. And it needed to be in town because I couldn't wait...

I work with hardware for a living (PC/Mac/laserprinters), so my vision on it may be a bit skewed. That said, hardware work in machines is *easy*. You should really take a chance next time something goes wrong to take a crack at fixing it yourself. There are a couple hundred thousand websites that'll walk you through it step by step, and it's pretty hard to damage the material, so screwups are rarely fatal. It can't hurt to learn a bit more about your system...

Well, all is still not well in computer-land. The computer is still up and running, and I can perform a variety of basic tasks like downloading and DVD watching, however the video card's fan came loose somehow (before the reinstall procedure) and while a makeshift solution is holding it more or less in place it's not cooling the card adequately. I'm running at 97-98 degrees...

Wow, that was a huge entry. wink
I've actually read the first issue of Y: THe Last Man. It was pretty good, although the author seems like he has some women issues.

The rest sound really good. I have a lot of reading ahead of me.

With Sandman, I cracked Preludes and Nocturnes and I really didn't like the art. Does the artist change up or is it the same guy for the whole thing?

I have to get a 1 page guide to choosing graphic novels written up, so I'm doing a lot of research. It's proving highly entertaining.
andvari:
Very well. On your recommendation alone (alright everybody's been raving about it) I'll bring home Sandman and give it a shot.

After all, I didn't like the art on league of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but the story was enough...so far.

Hosanna, angels, and all that.

Not only is my computer working again...but I didn't have to reinstall Windows. My amazement cannot be expressed in words.

Obviously Jeebus loves you.

Further updates: Dog is away again. Very cuddly, very cute...breath a terrible, noxious stench. I'm just as glad, really. I'm not a dog person. I enjoyed being around this one for a few days. He's quiet and prone to sleeping a lot. But even he was more high maintenance than I want in a pet, and I'm just not mentally geared to play with him...

So: newses.

My CPU and motherboard came today. I will be installing them on Sunday with the assistance of a friend. Ideally this will lead to the renewed functioning of my computer.

In anticipation of this state, and because it had 15 dollars knocked off the price for 48 hours only, I have just ordered The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. So expect me to have...

The average house price was around $200 000 this time last year, so it's not the price itself that's insane, but the inflation. We don't even have a nice river like the Mississippi, and certainly very few river front mansions.

The problem with your assesment of Iran (so far everyone's problem) is that you assume rational action. There seems to be far too many emotional appeals and pre-Iraq type hype for any sort of rationality to apply. Basically the Iraq war is irrational and yet that went ahead anyway.

I think Bush has already made up his mind to do something with the military and we are in the build up and hype phase.
andvari:
Ahh, you caught me. I did ask for your position. It's just been one of the things that has annoyed me so much recently. I talk to all these people who can come up with rational solutions to these sorts of problems. I listen to politicians who can come up with rational solutions to these problems...and the final choice always seems to be bugfuck crazy. blackeyed

Right, beat Suikoden IV. Really, even despite my having made certain tactical miscalculations, the endgame was not hard. I cleared the final naval battle without losing a single ship (though it was close). Both groups I sent into the last area were level 99 from wall to wall, so even though I forgot to properly equip the detachment party I simply released all enemies from...

Thoughts on my current Gamefly rentals:

The Warriors I may have mentioned previously (I forget these things easily). I honestly believe Rockstar has the golden touch. I don't think there's a single post-GTA III Rockstar game I haven't loved to bits. The Warriors is certainly not that exception. I'd never previously heard of the movie it's based on, but when I heard about the game...

Sorry I haven't posted on your journal in a while SG was doing something weird that every time I tried to comment I got take back to my last comment, which I believe is five or six entries ago. Then it wouldn't post whatever I wrote. Your account, sir, is cursed. wink
pepelepew:
Yes I am big Suikoden fan myself. Ya number 4 was quite awesome.I wanna try Suikoden Tactics because it looked interesting.

Soon, my precious, soon.

(Just bought a Socket 939-compatible motherboard with both AGP and PCI-Express, thus preserving my video upgrade options. And a Venice model Athlon 64 3200+. Probably won't actually ship until next week, but they *will* be mine. And then, I pray, my computer will actually run again, and Oblivion will suck my life away.)

Fantastic Four itself was fairly meh. It was ok, and I liked a couple of the changes they made to the formula (although taunting us with the prospect of an invisible naked Jessica Alba was little short of cruel.). But all the same, the script wasn't all that, and I really didn't care for the whole "failed relationship" bit with Reed and Sue. That just...

Ya I agree with u the Fantastic Four was ok. So was the Incredible Hulk.Ya I hate that crap on the DVd's too, they really need too make a auto-skip option for that. Ya it the same thing at movie theatre. With those stupid cell-phone ad. I mean does anybody actually still turn there cell phone on during the movie.

Tonight I watched Snatch, another wonderful movie from the guy responsible for Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Much like that movie, he draws together a large, colorful cast of criminals and ne'erdowells, most of them with some sort of strange British accent, and launches them into a complicated plot where various people get in trouble with other people and fuck over still other people...
