Taken from the T-Shirt Hell newsletter opener (Nov 10, 2007):

Merry "Time of the year when it's still several weeks until Christmas but you should be buying gifts anyway because this is a consumer culture and your possessions define you" Day. If you don't celebrate Christmas, I have a couple of things to say to you. First, I hope that dreidel comforts you while you're rotting in hell. And, second, just because you're not Christian doesn't mean you can't enjoy God Jr.'s birthday just as much as the rest of us. Just do all the typical Christmas stuff and designate December 25 "Matthew McConaughey Day" or "The Shampoo and Conditioner in 1 Festival."

30 Wii systems sold in my department in a matter of a day. Wow...consumer whorism indeed. Yes, I have one of those lovely systems as well, but I got it way back in March, with my hard earned cash. Spoiled, spoiled children these days!

Parents, stop being so crazy, please. Your kid won't hate you because you didn't buy them every last thing on their list, and if they do, it's a life lesson, and they'll get over it in a week. Constantly trying to gain acceptance from your children is terrible. They love you, just don't fucking beat them.

Kids, life lessons: you don't always get what you want, you have to earn things in life, and you should be thankful that your parents buy you half the shit on your list rather than beating the shit out of you. You're probably going to forget about that Wii that you wanted so badly in like a year anyway when something better comes along, so suck it up and go play in the snow.

i miss the days when kids were happy with dolls and wagons and playing in the snow, making snowmen and tobogganing. i hope if i have children, to raise them to appreciate what's right out the front door and to protect what's left of it, to use their imginations, instead of begging for the next big consumer item. the world is a sad place these days. i don't know if my wishes will be realized, and if i don't think so, i'll avoid the whole children thing all together, because last thing i want is a whiny kid with a christmas list down to the floor. last things i want is to contribute to the madness.

I agree entirely!

I hate when people ask me what I want for Christmas as well. In my opinion, I just want something small that has meaning derived from my relationship with that person. Something that means something to both of us, something I will actually enjoy and cherish.

I work hard for my money, and I will use that money for items that I actually NEED and WANT. I would rather gifts be something thoughtful, something I wouldn't necessarily buy for myself. All in all, I would usually rather get nothing.

Having said that, I have been meaning to pick up a Wii as of late.
