In another group I am a member too, a friend (Sekigahara) started a topic about sea stars and their spirits/souls.
If a sea star is cut in half, both halves will regenerate. So the question was, does the new half have its own spirit or soul?

Well from my opinion I do not think spirits or souls split, not even in the case of a sea star. What I do believe is this; we are all part of the same thing, the same universe, the same "God". What ever you want to hold your theology too.
The spirit or the soul is the part of the universe/God that is connected to us. Since the universe is connected to everything, if a sea star split the universe still holds its connection to the new half of the sea star just like it holds on to the connection with the old sea star.
Does a person have control over their spirit or soul? We just feel like it is there or something. After we out live our shell/body our spirit returns to being one w/ itself, God. Our worldly hopes, dreams, loves are no longer viewed the way they once where when you were of the flesh. You have a sense of unity, a sense or one-ness with yourself...which is everything.
God lives through us, we live through god. It is the circle of life.
Now the next thing I try to explain can be difficult. It is hard for me to explain in person so I can imagine how it will go over on text but here it goes.
To understand this you must understand time. At each moment that passes we reach a new time. Each new moment is the beginning of a new moment and an end of an old one and this happens at every millisecond or faster. So what makes this easy for me to picture is this, think of a black line, on one side of the line is light, on the other side is...gray (color not important). The light side is the moment we are living, conscious, comprehending. At each millisecond this black lines moves further into the light thus moving your past into the gray.
The black line is every living soul or being looking into the light (life/experience) but coming from the gray. So there must be something that breaks a hole into the black line separation from gray to light. The thing that breaks through is your mind, spirit, and soul what ever you want to call it. Basically how I envision it when a child is born there is another rip in the fabric of time that allows hat child to see.
We live in a time. We are here to experience, to live. And that is basically it.
So when a sea star splits does it make 2 new spirits? No but there is another spirit experienced. God is all of the spirits so the question can be asked does it make another god? No, it is all the same god. God is plugged into all of us. God actually is all of us. We are all just another personality of god experienced.
