Well... they probably don't need my testimony, since they're apparently pretty famous, but if you want to check out a jazz club in New York, the Blue Note is a great show in a nice atmosphere.

I was up in New York a couple weeks back (hence the plug above) to visit Esther. I timed the interval from when we hugged "hello" to the first time she hit me, and we set a new record, 34 minutes! She must be mellowing out. Anyway, aside from the club, about which I really don't have much else to say (who can put jazz into words anyway?), we also went to see the Bodies exhibit. It was fascinating to see inside a human being, and I probably learned a lot. If you see the little blurb asserting that they treat the bodies "respectfully," though... um, I'm not sure about that. They took out a guy's skeleton and had it high-five his musculature. That is awesome, but probably not respectful. But awesome.

Also saw Jay recently. She always likes me more when I've lost interest in her. I think that's why our relationship is so pathological. But we had some fun out at a bar. I invited her to join me for a performance of Sartre's No Exit, since she's the only person I know here with an interest in that sort of thing. Apparently it's her favorite play, so we'll see if she can make it down for that. It'd be nice to make a day of it, take her out to dinner, etc. Probably not, since she has to pay babysitters, but we'll see.

Not much else going on lately. I have another of those occasional bursts of activity coming up, though: tomorrow is my friend Jenny's birthday, so we're all going out in Baltimore. Monday I have a maybe-date with some Malaysian girl I met recently. Wednesday I'm trying out rock-climbing with Texy (friend of a friend whom I've come to like better than the original link). If Jay's joining me for the play, that's next Saturday. And at some point, I get to fly up to New York for an on-site interview with Google. It's the last stage in the process, so if that goes well, I might write my next entry from a new place in NYC!

On that topic, if Google doesn't pan out, I have a few other leads in New York, now. One is a consultancy, which would entail a good bit of travelling, possibly internationally. Another is a small linguistics-based firm that for some reason I just really like. Finally, I'm not sure how much sense it makes for me to work there, since I don't like sports, but Major League Baseball called to say they like my resume. It would be endlessly amusing to say "Yeah, I work for baseball," if nothing else.

So that's what I've been doing: hanging around with a few friends, taking endless phone calls (and finally finding some gems), and inexpicably watching engagements pile into the first week of October.
