Nothing particularly discussion-worthy, and I'm too tired to be clever, so this is one of those mostly list updates.

Thanksgiving was ok. My mom and I went up to visit my grandmother in the assisted-living home where she's recuperating from recent knee surgery. It's nice to see her again, but the home is depressing. She's in there because she has trouble getting around, but most of the other residents are senile, to the point of being scary. I did my honest-to-God best to be friendly to them, but there were times I was just too mortified to respond with anything but horror. One woman to whom I'd said "hi" responded by running her fingers across my chest. Her nails were about 1.5" long. She showed no sign of recognition or comprehension of my word, just dragged her nails from one side of my chest to the other. Another woman just sat in the common area loudly saying things like "THIS PLACE IS LIKE HELL. I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE A WORSE PLACE THAN THIS." Anyway, my grandmother seems to be recovering. Slowly, but it's supposed to take 6 months at the least, so that's expected. And if nothing else, they give her pretty good food. We all ate together at the home, and meals are better than what I usually end up eating around here.

That was actually my entire Thanksgiving break, so that long weekend was not as story-filled as it could have been. I've been out this past week, though. Thursday, I finally fulfilled a year-old promise to go and see my friend's band. Her name is Dina, and her band, Cowboy Amnesia, plays kind of pseudo-country with punk influences. Don't worry, I didn't have any idea what the hell that added up to before they played either. They're pretty good, as far as local bands go. When Dave and I went to see them, though, they were supposed to play first, at 9pm, and ended up playing last of four bands, starting at 12:15. At that point, me, Dave, and Dina's boyfriend were the whole audience. I felt kinda bad. Not to mention that all the bands before them were horrible. Unless you like Rockabilly, but in that case I don't want your opinion anyway. Still, it was worth the late evening--they did a decent set, and it was nice to see Dina again.

Friday, I actually tried to go to the SGDC open meet, but I didn't end up seeing anyone identifiable as an SG member. Of course, it probably didn't help that I don't have a t-shirt to wear so that anyone could realize that that's why I was there. Whatever. I brought Dave and Amanda for just such a contingency, so we hung around Palace of Wonders for a few hours, and watched the Mod dancers that they had for some reason. There was a girl with a hula hoop who was pretty cute, although she pales in comparison to Xiolita's performance.

Other than that, the holiday season has begun, so I was forced to endure Lauren's Christmas party on Saturday. I like her, but in general I don't care for her taste in people. So, I just talked to Amanda and the one person she'd invited. Disappointingly, Sarah did not get so drunk she took off her shirt and let us hang candy canes from her nipples this year, so I am forced to proclaim the party a failure.
