I brought the dogs down to Encinitas/DelMar to a dog beach today. Bronte, I think, is part fish because she fucking LOVES the water, Beren spent most of his time sniffing seaweed piles and Drogo stuck to me like he always does, sniffing a butt or two as it passed him by. Anyway, on the way there I was on "PCH" and saw a little Pug across the street running along without a leash or anything and a kid about 50yards back running full bore and screaming horribly after the dog. I stopped the car when I saw the pug trying to cross the road. I got out, cars zipping by me, honking at me for being presumably an asshole. The dog ran across the far lanes nearly getting hit twice, straight toward me, but just before he got within my reach he darted off back into traffic, and without thinking I jumped after him. I reached out and grabbed that fuckin Pug by the flesh of his back and in that instant saw a Jeep cherokee barreling down straight at my head, so I scurried on one hand and two knees with dog still firmly squealing in my clutch back to the front of my car. I stood and literally threw the Pug into my car and drove as fast as I could into a safer spot. By that time the kid had caught up and was white with fear and joy and well all the adrenaline you can imagine comes from that situation. He came to my drivers side window, with hands shaking he reached in and said in a the most old timey movie way you can imagine "Thanks Mister!" and picked up his little Pug (I was not a second later informed that the dog's name was Puddles, ironic that he nearly got renamed "Splat" that day)

Young man I said, a good deed is it's own reward- (whoosh.....)

--faint oohs and ahhs of crowd overtake audio as caped figure disappears into the bright blue sky,--
--roll theme music and credits-

Okay the last part didn't happen, but Seriously it was a crazy day and I swear I've never seen a kid smile as sincerely as when i handed him that fuckin dog, the dog on the other hand being oblivious to his near demise likely hated my ass-

Ha ha! Chaos with a happy ending. Watching dogs try to navigate busy streets is such an unnerving sight. I have my own little doggie rescue experiences, but none so action packed and glorious as yours. I picture a little freckle faced, Ron Howard, Mayberry type of kid when you mentioned the "Thanks Mister" bit.

Good deeds certainly are their own reward, however, I'm giving you a gold star anyway. Thank you for pulling that oblivious little pug back from the jaws of death.
You did a very good thing.
