another day ..

san diego is pretty friggin cool .. yesturday I got a tour of the gaslamp, and although it was only two in the afternoon the girls at the hustler store where quite friendly. (did you know that flynt charges 60 bucks for a set of pasties and a g-string? so much for porn for the masses, eh?)

I tried calling my previous employer today, too. I need to set it in stone that I am in fact not going to be returning to maine to work for them. I've been putting it off due to the fact that when I checked my account balance last week I discovered another paycheck had been deposited. at first I was very excited .. it's like finding cash in your pockets on laundry day. then I came to the conclusion that is isn't really like that at all and I started feeling a little quilty. that doesn't mean I didn't go out and buy a desk or anything .. it just means I had to call them an dtell them to cut it out, that I did in fact really move across the country, and that the chances of my moving back to maine to live for another cold, frozen winter are about as good as me finding someone here willing to let a complete stranger borrow their motorcycle for a few days so I can go out for a ride.

the upsaide is I finally managed to get in touch with my friend in utah (yes I know people in utah) and he's going to set me up with a job like he and I talked about in boston. life is good .. I had been holding out for this job, so if he can help to make it work, then I'm golden.

I still can't believe I'm in san diego.

Hey belive this: The Gaslamp was a slum 15-20 years ago. I know. My first "pad" was on 5th between Market and Island. It was a in a punk rock artist's community called Greenwich Village west. An old beatnic bought the then abandoned Lincoln Hotel and made it fit for human habitation. (Barely) It was sold again while I lived there, and now the bottom floor is a posh retail space. The artist colony period was actually the beginning of the urban renewal of what the city started calling the Gaslamp. Before then it was just the scariest part of rotten old downtown.
