Never been camping?!? Kentucky has some GREAT places to camp. Stiles, my brother and I passed through on our way to the Honda Hoot last spring, and we'll probably camp on our way back down next spring. I don't do much real backpacking these days, but I do camp off the motorcycle a lot. You should come to the SG Eastcoast Camping Weekend if it really happens again this summer. And if you want to come bike camping, the invite is here with no strings attached.
