The slippery slope that is " alone ". While alone may be grammatically incorrect, it is a statement of fact for now and the near future that dictates this word choice. For years ago, it began as a conscious decision disguised as either elitism or a defense system. The narrowing of views, ideas and contacts seemed justified and almost necessary to protect one's own. A posture and mindset that most grow out of or are forced out of in order to succeed or at least survive the adult world. A few are brave and fortunate enough to blaze their own trail embracing and inspiring others to join them as they move forward.

Unfortunately others remember leaning up against the chain link fence at the airport imagining the possibilities of the future. And as they look back now, they need not wonder where it went wrong as dozens of scenarios run thru their mind in any given week. And all that would be bearable, if there was a belief or even a longshot that the future would bring about a change. So they are left looking forward to the mind numbing and monotanous events of daily life that distract them from the real enemy which is the unbearable state of " silence " that only fuels their discontent and fear.
