the struggle of the day is apathy. now matter how big the font or where on the screen, the words breaking news on the infinite cable news networks usually fail to grab me. the need of the word breaking proves our general sense of disinterest. further evidence is the location of the news and maps so as to instantly assure us that it is not our city...not our neighborhood...not our concern... is it everyone or is it just me. are you all out there different. the dream of working for the peace corp does not seem to be as prevalent and yet the u2 beautiful day album sleeve was covered with greenpeace, african debt, amnesty intl. i read it, thought about it and yet that was all. i hope i'm the exception. did the interest for others disappear once i graduated from that college campus and the moral kiosks as r.e.m. called them. does it make harder to care having a 9-5, rent and adult hastles. is it ok that at least i'm nice to the people i come in contact with. is it ok for me to continually end sentences with a preposition. people say you're a nice guy. is that enough. as long as they don't say he was a quiet man...never woulda thought he woulda have committed that crime. you say to yourself that if you positively affect those around you it will spread like the pebble in the pond illustration but if everyone only improves their circle is that enough. are the problems too big. if you dropped a glass on a public pool deck would you say to yourself it broke into too many pieces so why pick any of it up. i watched the usa-ghana match today caring about a bad pass. ghana and ivory coast and 60% of africa live life and death. i recall hating the movie blackhawk down thinking how can the us govt leave the troops isolated like that as if the people living there have free choice to leave whenever they desire. this strikes me now and makes me feel like i have metal shavings in my mouth. will it lead to a change or will i walk the streets tomorrow in my typical bubble. i'll try to change but the smart money is on the latter. hopefully, i haven't brought people down but have sparked your plug. you know they say people that can't do teach. i guess this is the lesson for the day class.
