Try Benadryl, if you haven't already... it usually knocks me out quick, but doesn't keep me so looped up that I bust myself up going to the bathroom at night...

maybe, and this is a long shot, but maybe you should drink some coffee, or do something that will amp you up, so when the crash comes from that, it'll make your body and brains want to settle. it works for me sometimes. sleeping meds never helped. the benadryl might work too, but only for like four hours, only as long as it's effective as an antihistamine. at least thats how it works for me.
i hope you can find something cool to occupy the insomnia, and that your face and knee don't hurt, as much as they probably look.
