For the amount of things HS students go through that are mentioned in the show and are seemingly handled half-assed (drugs, violence, rape, criminal behavior and criminal negligence).. There so much more of that social meat grinder half-decade that's missed or left up to the imagination such that they will get ignored when trying to discuss the show.
Why am I even surprised that some schools and groups would rather you didn't even watch it and have discussions about these topics.
JED's talking point about it not being anyone else's fault is bullshit. The specific issue of Bryce facing conviction for his many assaults hurts my heart.
Because it will cause a new spike in copycat suicides. You know what will encourage more suicides? Trivializing the problems teens are facing. Honestly, from the experts, do not talk to them about suicide because they'll just kill themselves. That's their response. Not something sensible like let's do something about the contributing factors that led up to Hannah deciding she had no other choice.
Let's finally do something about rape culture.
