Ark

Back to that shitty issue of streaming Ark or not. Or even playing it or staring at the walls..

Playing the game is fun. Especially once I happened to plug an Xbox One controller into the motherboard to get into an xbox live party and it happened to just work. At least it worked better than using the keyboard since that what I'm used to playing with.

It isn't the same as just using keyboard on Xbox so there's some back and forth.

Got OBS Studio set up and was able to stream a few hours but there's something about Ark that still nags at me.

My landlord wants me to play on his server because it has mods... and again that's why I won't. I hate mods.

For some reason just learning to play on PC again is challenging enough. Starting a new character on vanilla is hard enough. The game on PC has all kinds of additions AND with the much upgraded hardware the game is significantly better than it was on Xbox.

But it is literally the same stupid shit. This game isn't finished. It isn't particularly buggy.. but it is just not finished. There's literally no polish to it and it is silly..

You never sleep unless your character passes out.. and although it is there and is functional.. there's not enough circle of life methodology behind the game.

I'm dying considerably less than when I started out on Xbox.. but that's because I know better. But that also means I'm going to have to be much more prepared and prudent because I can't rely on autosaves and reloading.

Player versus dinosaurs..

So I collected a have dozen dodos and put them in a little house.. no eggs.

I fish for meat.. and.. am leveling up..

For some reason.. I mean precisely because of the cost of entry it sucks that the game itself is exactly the same. Janky animation, dumb AI and pathing.. silly physics.. and the majority of the game is in my head as in my imagination.

I don't mind the idea of playing to get more fuel for more blogs.. but I don't think I could stream Ark and make it interesting while playing. It just isn't interesting at all. Yet.

Like I play vanilla for the challenge versus building huge bases and things and taming legions of dinosaurs because surviving is fun.

I'm sure building massive bases is also fun.. but.. when you're alone what's the point in that?

Being powerful enough to survive and thrive is enough. Getting to the point where I can claim another cookie monster Giganotosaurus would be a great objective.

But I did that once already.. without the game being more complete.. and the animations and AI getting upgrades.. which apparently aren't forthcoming.. what's the point of this game?

There are ways to apply mods so that there is still a challenge but so what? The fundamentals which aren't complete or polished aren't affected by mods.

You won't be able to stand by a pool or water.. or the sea and have some massive creature come up from behind you and dunk its head in for a massive drink. You won't see the water rippling away from its head as it bobs with each majestic thrusting of its throat... fish scattering. You won't happen onto a nest of babies with a ferocious protective mother creature (although there is a total conversion mod to make you play as a dino where there's supposed to be a thing.)

Like the game for all its complexity is just a bunch of simple parts. There isn't enough of an active simulation at work in the background

You can't perch on a big rock and watch a huge creature walk by.. it's skin pulling over a massive skeletal frame with immense muscular systems heaving that bulk around. In theory the machine is fully capable of it. But this isn't that game yet.
