But it is hard for me to read articles about the 'console issue', that they might finally hit performance adequate for 4K, to finally drive adoption of 4K content when consoles are by definition bullshit and that's what peeps know them for.
Any reservations people have for 4K consoles involves the possibility that while they might support 4K they'll end up being lame regardless...
And that's fine!
Why? Because they are there to encourage you to dive into 4K. There's no other way to 4K content in one place other than a PC.

When you say that in the same sentence as 5K StarVR needs to be a thing I'll say yeah ok making that wireless makes sense but the bandwidth and stability even on ac wireless network isn't there but a back pack? Really? M'k sure.

But I'll slap a bitch that says there's that many developers that will stand up with glowing support about how much the Xbox has done for them. Many have been ruined by running exclusively for Xbox. Tell me that another and actually meaningful bump in the road... From Antena CRTs, to 480p DTV through 720p, 1080p to 4k will not have as crippling a bump in cost for developers that the hardware will actual perform out of box for most applications to really sell themselves.. The way simply standing in front of a 4K demo reel sells curved 4K TV screens that are thinner than a pencil.. Those cameras aren't cheap but most modern cell phones have adequate 4K video modes. Some exclusive websites have 4K videos to download our stream. So will it be that easy for games? Nope. They will require excessive millions if not billions from individual studios to justify the jump to 4K over the still inadequate for 1080p systems we have today. These systems won't be obsolete for years. So 4K consoles regardless of the purposed anticompetitive policies from Sony still have to surpass current consoles in popularity to become the default development platforms for games that will however briefly if they can manage it parallel PC game development.
So you're looking not at the best hardware money can buy, you're looking at supporting a brand and platform for adequate 4K movies, TV shows probably streaming, and video games.
There's a very real possibility that MS will push more bullshit apps and that was already clear from build 2016. It'll be even more clear at E3 even if they down play it. ESPN's app had more than a few minutes in the press briefing for Xbox One since Microsoft needed something big to talk about other than the irrelevant list of exclusive games they might release but where is that experience now? Yeah. Wait where are those other games? Uh. Crackdown?
Anyhow brand. Consoles aren't about hardware and capabilities but brand. MS is pushing for hardware now only because their brand is hurt. Sony is pushing hardware because Playstation can help them push hardware for their other brands. There's nothing wrong with PS4 other than the lack of 4K support. An upgraded PS4 that plays 4K movies just followes in the footsteps of the last few hardware upgrades. We'll see how it plays out and how long Xbox One and PS4 remain relevant to their respective brands. But Microsoft having 4K capable hardware? There's no reason for it other than as a lifepreserver for a brand that just needs to be put to rest. Again, that's unless you can tell me MS actually has a fucking plan this time and partners that will push games exclusively to that platform. Ones that really believe in the brand.. Ones that would have to be fully ignorant of the history of that brand.
