250 somethingth day.. and leveling up to 75 seems like a dream.
I figured after level 70 that the only real way to pack on enough xp to level up will require constantly murdering things.. or building high level stuff which would require all kinds of special materials.
Tedious BS.
So I've been trying to get my roommate/landlord to play Ark.
He refuses to buy it though. He's a PC gamer so I'm not blaming him but it is interesting that he doesn't even want to consider buying the game.
At first he was just trying to get a server running but I was like.. if you have no one to play with you just need to buy the game off of Steam and play that. It's on sale 40% off.
He eventually tried it and.. comedy.
I'm like you saw how frustrated I was .. why did you think it would be different for you?
I encouraged him to try again but I don't think it was necessary. I'd already told him he would be murdered repeatedly until he learned the basics.
Having learned some of them I attempted to impart some kernels of wisdom that he could take back to the island with him.
Tame a trike, get berries, tame a few brontos.
But he pointed out the beds and fast travel thing. And the Gathering during the day and crafting at night.
I was like No. Do it the other way. For the most part the night is chill and so you can, when properly clothed, gather berries and craft, explore, hunt during the day.
It'll be interesting to see which is more effective for him.. but the beds thing. I straight up gave up on beds for reviving and fast traveling because I refuse to accept death. Death happens but then I rage quit instead of reviving.
At this point my character has been alive for something like 150-200 days because I haven't respawned since reaching the Frozen Tooth beach and establishing this breeding compound.
I mean I've only even been hunkered down here for so long because so much of the tech tree opened up right as I was unsure of what to really do next.
It seemed counter productive to drop all of that, drop beds everywhere, and make all of the random half assed bases everywhere.
Instead I have this compound for breeding almost every creature on the island I've come across.
Because there's a point at which you discover kibble and figure out that if you tame the creatures that drop the eggs needed to make the kibble.. you only then need to make a small pen and protect it.
However the more eggs from a more varied set of dinos you need, the larger the pen needs to be.
Brontos basically refuse to sit around in pens.. so the walls need to be huge. And then just about everything nearby will try to get in just to fuck up your shit.
So you either make a wall of x plants or level up to the point you can make gun turrets.. or tame enough carnivores to serve as perimeter guards.
I was saying the game lacks something crucial before and that's being able to train your dinos to guard things.
But you can put them outside say, and have then follow another dino that's inside. That way they stay near the wall but will still attack anything outside.
Meat defenses being pretty effective.. personally I get to attached to them all to bother setting them up as simple worker drones. Other than to pump out eggs which they will do anyway.
So.. beds?
I have nothing against them but I got so much more out of the game by travelling over land than by fast travelling.
At this point though since I have just about everything I need unlocked.. I could set up redundant caches of armur, weapons and materials, and automatic perimeter defenses for my three bases. The one at Frozen Tooth, WhiteSky and the first one back at Southern Islands.
Like that's a big to do list that will be more fun than puttering around in a breeding pen hand feeding new generations of doeds.
Then I realized it. I'm breeding doeds while there's waves of the bastards trying to roll through my breeding compound.
Since they are mammals that don't produce anything.. I shouldn't be breeding them.
So I put down too beds and will consider respawning. If I die.. by venturing into the cave next to Frozen Tooth.
At least once I have enough automatic guns set up at the breeding compound with several tons of bullets so I can start taking down the half dozen alpha rexes that are across the water and up on the hills.
