Actually telling her my story.. of how I've had an Alpha Rex haunting my base, that was the easy part. Since she's a gamer she understood and wished me luck.
If only it was just 1 Alpha Rex.
Ark.. is an easy game to play but you quickly learn that it is really just thrown shit at you to kill you.
You get stronger and eventually can fend off most attacks..
I'd explained it as the earlier players found the game too easy because they implored the devs to add something else to the game to add challenge to it.
Alpha predators.
I'm fine with them generally speaking because they were nerfed and normally their depredations are limited.
They are assholes that normally don't try to get themselves murdered. Not that I believe I can. But I do have to harass the one across from the section of the Frozen Tooth beach I claimed.
But it has been 100 something days fortifying this area with several trips to WhiteSky.. always haunted by the asshole across the water.
Then a few days ago I noticed another one up on Frozen Tooth and another on my side of the water.
The one on the beach went over to the other side on its own so there were two assholes over there and one up the mountain that could come down at any time.

I needed metals so I went up Frozen Tooth.
I don't know why but coming back down, even with GPS.. I sometimes come down at a bad angle and miss the beach.
Your TRex was murdered by an Alpha Rex mother fucker :/

I'd explained to her that for that rex to keep hitting my Rexes it must have been waiting on my side of the beach again and was attacking by going around a wall.
I'd gotten back to the base a couple of times in time to see him just diddling around.. as soon as show up he dives in an murders my rexes.
Asshole.
But she'd wished me luck.
Although I kept trying this morning I'd only been getting back in time to see my rexes getting murdered. I just ran. Right before getting within sight of the base I jumped on the rex I brought with me.. my low level Male Rex I'd named Aube (which I need to stop naming my males after hot women I have no chance with.. sigh..) we jumped into it.
Aube would have gotten murdered in a second but I was like wtv. There's nothing we can do since this is an Alpha Rex and it will literally rip us all apart.
We just have to make it not worth it for him to stay in the base. Or at least maneuver him into the base defenses he needs completely laser focused on avoiding.
This isn't a free meat buffet after all asshole.
I don't know how but the 5 brontos that should have been blocking anything large from entering the base finally decided to join the fight. I have no idea why they were just standing around every other time.
These reinforcements and the Alpha Rex finally crossing into the Xplant killzone tipped the battle in our favor.
It got hurt enough to get scared off by the 5 brontos rushing in.
Of course.. I had told her I understood there would be losses. I'd have to face losing one of my female rexes and anything else in the way of that Alpha Rex before it either had its fill.. was dead.. or got scared off.
But having had to sprint back to the base with only Aube meant abandoning my Paracer pack mule and my Ankylo.
There was no way to get back while trying to wait for the Ankylo to catch up. Thankfully it is high level enough that I could risk leaving it on the slops of Frozen Tooth. If it stuck close enough to the also high level Paracer they could slip whatever predators Aube and I had to sprint by to get back to the beach.
We lost 1 female rex and a both mammoths.
Which I only just realized was the other lose.
It sucks because she wasn't even named and her sacrifice was enough to pull the Alpha Rex into the waiting whip tails of the brontos which ultimately brought them into the fight.
I kinda hate this game for moments of inevitable drama like this because it really makes me feel bad.
Having a pack of 4 TRexes was great because it felt like an indomitable group except in the face of an Alpha Rex.
It comes in a murders everything. Reminding one that the Alpha predators rule the island.
So losing 1 rex and a couple of mammoths to scare it off was a small price to pay for the lives of the rest of my group.
And then I realized the mammoth only died because there were wild rexes on that side that slipped inside the base because the X plants weren't active. I can't explain because I thought they were all on. I'm pretty sure they were on because there's always wild Doed shits trying to get into the base. Unless I turned them off to kill some Doeds.. there's no reason for base defenses to have been off on that side.
wtv replacing mammoths is nothing compared to my cherished TRex.
At this point I'm not sure what I have to do.. which is irritating because it has been 100 days on the shore of Frozen Tooth not knowing wtf to do.
I've built several pens and gotten electricity going so within a few days we could have lights.. we could have X plants on every wall and most probably will because I'm sick of bog predators getting into the base.
Thankfully the two breeding pens set up for the scorpions and tamed Doeds saved them all from the Alpha Rex that was right on top of them... and that there was nothing breakable otherwise in the way of its rampage.
Yes we had losses and I'm taking blame for the one of the mammoths getting killed. I'll need to tame another breeding couple.. but it hardly matters due to the man power needed to actually build pens for larger creatures.
Short term just more irrigation and X plants and a large pen for the remaining rexes.
The game's forums seems to paint a fruitless picture of breeding reptiles so I figure actually trying to breed and then hand feed a rex hatchling will be miserable.
Fuck.. breeding a god damned Doed took REAL DAYS hand feeding just 1 baby!
Yes the little fucker is cute but I didn't sign up to hand feed it for 2 days! and so forestall actual trips to the nearby peaks for materials.
Actually catching and taming Rexes is goddamned hard.. and that's even with the one that just wandered into the kill zone and basically begged to join our team. I'm content with just 3 if it's all I need to get to breeding and seeing how miserable it actually is to try. But I'm really just trying to build out the base so it is secure while I'm trying to set up the other 4 sites. AND eventually have team ready to visit the remaining areas of the Island that I haven't explored yet.
After losing my rex... and knowing all 3 Alpha Rexes are just sitting there waiting for me to leave the base again though.. I don't know.. Like there's only so much I can do.. and literally only so much more I can take from them before I really try to murder them all. I've tried but they are too chicken shit to do it while I'm there or when I try to drag them into the kill zone. Next one to try is going to have a ballista pointed at his head and double the X plants pelting his lambent backside.
