So on the front page was a question about songs for funerals.

Funerals.. ?

And there was a thought, due to the bombings in Boston that I don't want to live on this planet anymore, and as the decades pass it seems like few if us have that choice.

But said another way, I don't want to live on this planet forever, and several groups of people tirelessly toil towards giving some of us, or future generations that choice.

In the meantime.. funeral. I've lived my life with the belief that no matter what I'm not going to be responsible for what happens after I die, and most likely there won't be a funeral.

But what about after? people have had the choice of burial, cremation, being shot out into space etc.

What about something more practical? as in why not have our remains, based on out ashes, made into legal tender coins?

Of course they wouldn't last long, and perhaps being buried under a tree makes more sense if your remains are chemically safe for that tree to suck up as nutrients, I think I'd very much like to be turned into a dollar.

If I ever start writing my novel again I might even add that.. if society or societies around the world get so populous and land gets so scarce and valuable that they can't just bury everyone, that being cremated and having your ashes smelted or sealed in legal tender coins with a QR code leading to a page dedicated to your memory would be interesting.

And above I stopped short of mentioning that some people would just rather be preserved... best common example I can think of is the movie i Robots memory disks or Battlestar Galactica's version of Watson (computer program that searches all digital traces of you and presents it as an avatar that would behave as you would and has access to any memories that were stored digitally.

There would be many decades more work to do getting such systems up and running and there's still not enough information for most of us for such a thing to work.. but there's still hope for future generations.

How weird would it be for all your information to be preserved, like DNA (flawed or flawless), memories (inspiring or incriminating), and your ashes (of negligible value but probably of great sentimental value) etc, in a legal tender coin. What value would it have? what would it be used to buy?
