Drugs

What if drugs were legal?

It is a show I watched (watching), and it adds another side to a problem I've been discussing recently.

Why are commercial drugs such a problem for people? they can't afford what they need, they don't know what they need and how much, and doctors have serious problems figuring it out for them. Too often doctors tell people what drugs to take but because they don't know everything about the person they can have them take the wrong amount and mix the ones they are supposed to take with other compounds that can seriously ruin their health.

Decriminalizing the rest would do what besides give people a legal high?

With legalization what you will get is dosage. People will be more aware of what will happen to them when they are high. It allows them to be in safer environments when they get high. It makes it easier, not cheaper, to access drugs safely and would put the onus of the consumer's safety on the industry. The guy that sells you drugs would be accountable if you get too fucked up and happen to die. That same liability that should apply to pharmaceuticals.

When the doctor gives you something potentially dangerous, and something bad does happen, they should be criminally liable. It is exactly the same thing that should apply if someone sells you a tablet of cocaine and you have a heart condition, and you die, shouldn't that dealer be liable? for not asking?

BUT on the other hand the question is about people being able to safely buy drugs, is very close to legalizing suicide. If anything it is very difficult to license the sale of potentially dangerous drugs because people can die when they get fucked up intentionally. They are at a higher risk. Liability for death, when would it run out? only after the person is sober again?

In the end, before I even watched the show, my conclusion was that no matter what pharmaceuticals should be straightened out before legalizing the rest of the recreational drugs out there.

Imagine if after the whole medical marijuana issue, if just E was legalized for parties in licensed clubs that had EMTs on the scene. Should parents be able to sue if their kids got in, and got high? if the kids snuck in and were underage?

It already happens for alcohol and cigarettes. There have been massive crackdowns and I'm glad. Accountability is there and retailers do seem to feel responsible. Meaning controlled substances are being limited to adults. That's all we've been waiting for hasn't it? As long as adults who are otherwise healthy enough for sex, alcohol, cigarettes, etc why should those substances be controlled? why should recreational drugs if they are otherwise safe, tested and licensed? Cheap... and you know what you're getting into and they you'll otherwise be safe so long as you don't trip yourself off a roof or into traffic without a vehicle.

It would then just be a question of policing people who do screw up and get banned from drugs. And even that is not legally binding, people in AA are still allowed to buy alcohol and drink themselves stupid.

Can you control the sale of substances to people who have legally been banned, because they've been medically diagnosed to be at high risk? only on paper. Unless it is time for prohibition like laws for people who are confirmed to be at risk and are under age, while allowing genpop to fuck themselves up if they want to.

I'd be much happier with that. You can get fucked up, but it has to be in a safe area. Otherwise you get stopped and arrested if necessary.
