i dream of flying now and then, last night i dreampt of jumping into a flying vehicles and having fun, though under some duress trying to figure out the controls, what's yaw, pitch, roll, thrust, brakes etc on something that didn't have wings or rotors.
I'm not sure it was a helicopter though, something like an open top www.moller.com or that skateboard car in fantastic 4. Minus the noise.
then I wonder about the clockwork farday cage man in last episode's Fringe. But instead of using a magnetic field to create a space time babble bubble.. why not have something like that.. that you can take off (like a suit), for doing sky diving without wind?
A levitation, levi-suit can't be that hard to design, to distribute your weight between points on your body instead of all the surface area exposed to the air.
one magnet in the floor and antipoles on your person and controls and skills enough to not shoot off like a bullet or splatter onto the floor (by being pulled to the floor)... wouldn't be without risk but would sure as hell beat the noise and pressure of terminal velocity wind sheer to the face. I imagine it could be like a trampoline without the jumping part.
combining both, magnets to push you back up and help you to levitate could be safer... just in case the magnets fail you don't just go splat, but you wouldn't need the full 9-10 meters per second wind to stay in the air either...hmmm
