Been an interesting day.. much debating about 3D and bluray for Xbox 360.. and adding a portable man cannon and boats and jetskis to Halo 3.. that would be nice
But while watching the Quantum Theory and MAss Effect syfy vid-doc III trailers over at Gametrailers.com I wondered.. what would a game like Mass Effect be like with:
The ability to actually jump between all the characters you can recruit?
From the beginning the question was asked and never satisfactorally been answered. It's just this way because.
Fine but including a lack of vehicles and the ability to roam a city (and galaxy) isn't the story a bit limited? isn't game play?
I think just for quality's sake being able to jump into the skin of each character you need to fight with builds so much more on the quality of that character because you can take full control and not hope and prey... and well yes it would be nice for each to have their own back story from their point of view even if it isn't the 40 hour focus.
Like, for Mass Effect wouldn't it be more fun to explore their past, and parallel missions, fully understand their character and motivation? For something like 6-8 hours each? Instead of the shitty side quests?
Still can't say anything about Mass Effect 2 besides bring it on.. but that niggle still nags.. I'm not feeling the urge to blow another week or two of my live grinding through pointless side quests. Not without a proper set of wheels, a jet pack or something.
But even generally being able to switch between characters instead of being one in command of AI hoping and preying they get it right.. If a game forced you into dynamic situations with multiple bodies or shells that you had to move into strategic positions... That might make for a good FPS brain teaser.
Consider it like a 3D first person game of Chess. You have 4 game pieces and you need to move them around but you can only control 1 at a time.
Each has a gun. Each gun fires a different type of bullet which need to be fired at different spots on an enemy.
If you can get your head about tracking 4 targets at the same time, and flipping between (yes... each of your 4 Avatars
) them I'm thinking that would surely tickle ones brain.
Anyone know a developer who might be willing to put something like that together?
