It's likely to be a steady topic for a while..
I discovered something rad
Radical.. yeah.. something of a departure from the boring everyday duldrum of gaming.. something I've been wanting to try for a LONG time with little hopes of it succeeding.
Context,
I mentioned before that I impulse purchased a 24 inch screen. No pretext whatsoever beyond it's energy efficient compared to the 42 inch I bought last year.. and MUCH easier to use for the daily duldrums of webbing and writing and some light gaming. The Regza is still chief when it comes to blurays and Southland and House and Reaper etc.
So.. what to do though to make the 24 inch less dull?
The initial concept was simple, rotate it so it stands 1920 pixels high by a super model skinny (or fat) 1200 pixels.
The HP monitor the guy tried to sell me did the rotating trick all by itself. I'm not ashamed to admit either that my initial jimmyhackmod rotating bracket.. pipe cleaners and all.. wasn't so hot.
SO. A few dollars spent on a proper rotating mounting bracket.. and some more jimmyhackmodding later.. I haves me my rotating 24 inch display.
Yay 4 me.
Where initially the entire point of the rotating mod was to have my web pages open 1920 pixels high.. working great.. and word able to show crap loads of my stories, hypothetically, then yeah it was worth getting the swiveling and tilting bracket.
BUT.. glory be, Sims 3 actually punches home the real worth of the purchase since it does work in 1200x1920 resolution!
I was only mildly shocked. More due to the months of being perpertually burnt out making it impossible for me to really be excited that the game actually hasn't stopped surprising me.
Ok, so you might ask why?
Why play the sims in 1200x1920 portrait mode? stupid questions aside.. It's actually the way the game should be played.
Your lot is vertical, and generally your Sims are up on their hind legs most of their waking day.
It's just different and it will take some time to get used to it but I'm already very much in love with playing the game in TALL portrait mode. It's like the best God vantage you can get.. a vertical slice from cloud to turf.
I think if it doesn't make me really sick then I'd really love for more games to run in 9:16 mode.

I bought a rotating and swiveling bracket for a TV. A wall mount bracket. Screwed it through two pieces of chappeled wood which previously were shelves in a cupboard.
All I have to do it add brackets to the sides of the chappeled shelves (think two playing cards held upright a few inches apart with the tops touching. Once you let go they stand. Once the tops are screwed together by the top screw for the bracket the lot stands.
I just have to counterweight the other side of the chappeled shelves so the whole thing doesn't fall forward.
Previously I just had the 24 inch vertical next to the 42.. which oddly complemented each other very well.
The only problem is that the LCD panel has colour and white issues where you can see a negative image in some parts while patches are ok. This is due to the monitors view angle being crap. So the swiveling spect of the bracket, 15 inches in every direction and 360 rotation REALLY helps with getting a good view angle.
Don't get me wrong a real tilting display would be great but nothing beats swiveling, tilting and rotating. Maybe adding a sensor so it shifted automatically from landscape to portrait... hmmmmmm...
