On Being a Ringmaster

Master of ceremonies, figurehead, voice of authority, the ringmaster can be many things. Both a part of and separate from the action, they are ever present at the show. Could the show go on without one? Imagine the chaos. What is it that gives them their authority? Perhaps it's the top hat and tails, or perhaps it's the crack of the whip. All eyes turn to centre ring when the lights dim and the spotlight focuses on a solitary figure in black.
