Where's the line between finding yourself and trying to be something you are not?

I find a lot of who I wish to be is influenced by the things around me, society, family, etc. Though, through the journey of self definition, I have come to realize that finding myself is accepting myself. I still strive for more, but that is not to be someone else, however, to improve who I already am.
