So I know I don't really talk about personal stuff on SG, but I'll make a slight exception.

My fabulous hunka-hunka-burnin-love left today, so I'm a little blue. But it's okay, because he's home in 42 sleeps. I gave him my uber-large SG long sleeved shirt to sleep in, but it's a wee bit tight. Whatever... he'll gain bonus points with the other boys.

I find it interesting that today is the first day I *noticed* the rain.

In the meantime, I've been busying myself with lots of anti-oppressive practice journal articles. Woot. So much better than taking the dog to the beach... or cuddling... or driving through the car wash and singing 80s power ballads. Suuuure.

I did find something worth noting in my usually repetitive and mind-blowingly dull readings.

"[A]ny thoery that cannot be shared in everyday conversation cannot be used to educate the public"
-bell hooks, "Theory as Liberatory Practice"

which brings me to...

"I have come to see white privilege as an invisible package of unearned assets which I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was 'meant' to remain oblivious."
-Peggy McIntosh, "White Privilege and Male Privilege: A Personal Account of Coming to See Correspondences Through Work in Women's Studies."

I find it interesting that as soon as I wrote down the title of the latter article that I wanted to immediately come to my defence by saying that I'm not a Women's Studies major. I'm not, but why would I be so ashamed to say that? Hmm. Cynical upbringing, I suppose.

Anyways. I really liked the article on white privilege, as it's something I'm forced to deal with in class these days (and presumably, in work and living, for the rest of my life).

Sigh. So this is my life for the next 6 weeks.
