So, Madonna played at the big Wachovia Center in Philly last night. That's the same place the Sixers play ball, so that's the kind of venue you're looking at. Heard on the radio the ticket prices were....get this....

Upper deck--$57--$107 per seat. Lower deck and floor---$107 to $307 PER SEAT. One floor seat was $307. WTF??????

I mean--Madonna is...or WAS...important to pop music. She's an icon. And she's 52 year's old still playing the hot chick singing "Like a Virgin...." Sorry. That just doesn't play for me after the old girl's got some age on her. But, to spend $614 bucks for two tickets for a good seat--$114 for two for nosebleed (is that a blonde ant down there with the microphone) seats....

I'm not trying to diss Madonna, but that's just effing out of control. I know it was, like, 1980, when I paid $18.00 for a front row, side of the stage seat to see the Rolling Stones--and, yeah, prices are going to go up---but who in the hell can actually AFFORD prices like this Madonna Gauge-the-fans-concert.

I've paid over a $100 for a row four seat at The Tower in Philly to see B.B. King just a few years ago. That's not overpriced for a good seat, as far as I'm concerned. I paid less than that to see Buddy Guy in the Kimmel Center--which is the Philadelphia Orchestra's new hall---beautiful, and acoustically fine-tuned, so that Buddy Guy walked away from microphones and really started playing with the actual acoustics of the hall itself to see what he could do.... When he played the same place two years later, I bought Neo and his son tickets and said "You've got to see this man in this particular place." This is a blues guitarist Jimi Hendrix bowed down to and named as one of his influences. This is one of the greatest guitarists--blues or any form of music--to ever live--playing in a venue completely designed to capture every nuance of musical sound. Neo's son, Zane, who is a musician who has studied music for years, and, trust me, been back stage at more big name rock concerts than any human being I know (thanks to his parents.)--told his dad on the drive home "I think that may have been the best concert I ever saw."

Madonna. $307 a seat. Fuck that!

Okay--rant over. Just needed to get that off my chest. Ha. eeek blush

There was a concert promoter in Boston back in the day named Don Law and some friends invented a Rock and Roll anti hero they called MadonLaw. I don't remember anything else about it but every time I hear or see her name I hear "MadonLaw" and laugh.

$300?!!!?

I am a huge Madonna fan. I have never seen her live but do own the The Confessions Tour DVD and thought she performed well in it.
But that is a lot of money to pay for some old tunes. I know she complained at one time that so many fans request her old stuff.... maybe she was pandering to those folks.
In any case sorry the tickets were so expensive and didn't hit expectations.
