Back from the beach....and of course life is a mess. No, not a mess, just, still full of important decisions. Why is it that when I "go away" for a length of time I expect the aggrivating choices that were dogging me before I left to mysteriously vanish by the time I return - and when they don't I'm perplexed as to why they're still around?

Nonetheless, I am tired from my vacation. My sister was down the shore with me and she brought her daughter (I guess that makes her my niece, right?) in tow. She's cute, gurgly, wide-eyed, slightly spaztic (as all babies are), and such a bundle of energy that she makes you smile no matter how jaded you might think you are.

She IS, however, a chronic insomniac (as all babies are) and I didn't get more than 3 hrs. of uninturrupted sleep the entire time I was down there. So, uh, I'm a little worn out from my vaction.

The prodigious consumption of alchohol didn't help. (Thanks grimjack for the dogstar referral. The beer there was great..."man's ruin" strikes again)

So, yesterday, with "babies on the brain" I began listening to the 1st Tears for Fears album and I'm now horribly addled.

Back up: Tears for Fears is a New Wave band that some of you old-timers are familiar w/ because of songs like "Sowing the seeds of love", etc. However, they used to be much angrier. They're a duo that believed in the power of "Primal Scream" therapy (which is also is the name of another Brit-rock band). In it you're supposed to confront and embrace your pain and trauma by shouting, screaming, crying - highly emotive, carthartic stuff (which explains the name of their biggest hit, "shout") . That's where their name comes from - Tears for Fears.

Gary Jules covered "Mad World" for the Donny Darko soundtrack which is from their 1st album "The Hurting," and it's recieved a fair amount of air time. That's why I poped in "The Hurting" yesterday - to hear the origional version and to re-listen to an album I haven't heard in a LONG time.

...and it's totally fucked me up. When you've got "babies on the brain" you don't want to hear lyrics like this (from "Suffer the Children"):

And it seems so strange/
That at the end of the day/
Making love can be so good.
But the Pain of birth/
what is it worth/
when it don't turn out the way it should.

I need to go back to Deleware and start drinking all over again. surreal
