Sometimes, you create a character and something about them just... sings to you My story has heroes - Yseult and Ellie are close to my heart but Asatei... there is a special place for Asatei. She began life as 'the dangerous woman', a cold, calculating character, feared for what she is capable of making happen when she is not there more than when she is.
As her character evolved in the development of The Deep System, my affinity for her grew. She is not the main 'bad guy' by a long shot - she sits in the grey area with her own agenda. Maybe that's what I like about her. When I realised how I wanted her story to end, my affection for her only grew more intense and now as an author, I care for her like a main character.
She is dangerous and in the second book, I'm convinced she gets all the best lines ; ) I'even written dialogue for her that will be used several books down the line.
