I'm having a go at creating some greyscale pages to insert into my first novel and I though it might be useful to use one to try and help teh reader get used to Beauty not being referred to a 'the' in front of her name.
Her being a spaceship, even I have had difficulty avoiding the tendency to say 'The Beauty' but I keep reminding myself that as a sentient creature, albeit wrapped in a metal frame, she should be referred more like you would a horse or pet.
And no-one would put 'the' in front of their pet's name or call the titular horse 'The Black Beauty' in her story.
So it's taking time and I forget sometimes but like getting used to a friend who starts being referred to with a different pronoun, you just keep correcting yourself and eventually it will become second nature.
