I just spent the last two hours watching a film documentary recommended to me by my friend Andrew. And I'm left in a swirl of complete disbelief and amazement. I knew things were screwy, but...wow.

I encourage anybody that happens to read this to watch it:
SiCKO

I must admit I cried a few times because it absolutely broke my heart to see people suffering the way they were, in the United States, in a country that is supposed to be so great. I cannot believe that we are treating our citizens this way, its ridiculous. Its also insane that we can go to Cuba, of all places, a third world country, and receive better and more honest health care there than we can here.

It was horrible to hear the horror stories of health insurance, to hear the stories from families that were denied treatment for life threatening conditions (like cancer, tumors, diabetes, etc) because they were deemed unnecessary. What? Are you kidding me? It honestly broke my heart to hear the stories in which those people later died from the illnesses that they could have been treated for just so these insurance companies can make more profits.

Its incredible to see what advantages and benefits Americans have when the LEAVE the United States to live in another country because other countries offer free universal health care.

And the ending of the video was absolutely touching.

I am amazed...

This all hit home a little more because of my own experiences with our health care system last fall/winter. I went to the emergency to receive help; I was told I would have to wait several weeks to get in to see a doctor at the health clinic in order to receive help for my depression. Several weeks?

I went to the emergency room. They put a plastic band around my wrist and stuck me in the waiting room for about an hour. They took me to another room where I continued to sit. I was questioned by three different people. "Are you suicidal?" I answered no every time they asked, I even got, "Are you sure you aren't suicidal?" a few times. It was completely fucking ridiculous. In the end all it got me was a note from a doctor that came in, looked at me, asked the same damn question again and decided all he could do was send me back to the clinic. And they charged me nearly $400 for it.

$400 fucking dollars for nothing.

I hate our system a little more every day.

I'm moving...
