Aileen Wuornos, worked as a prostitute on the Florida Interstate for fifteen years. The seven men she was accused of killing picked her up on the highways. She accuses these men of assaulting, raping and attempting to kill her. According to a 1991 study by the Center of Prostitution Alternatives, prostitutes are raped on an average of 33 times a year. In her videotaped confession, Aileen made over 60 references to having acted in self-defense. Every single one of these references was deleted in the version shown to the jury. Aileen does not match the profile of a serial killer; no serial killer has ever pleaded self-defense. Prosecutors argued that because Aileen is a lesbian, she is "gender confused" and has an "intrinsic hatred of males." This kind of homophobic reasoning is putting women to death.
*** In Florida alone, 80% of the women on death row are LESBIANS.
