So the Cog show was pretty good. I don't like the venue much (the Roxy in Parramatta) because it's hard to find a place where the music sounds good. It's very steep where the seats are so you don't get much low end sitting high up, but on the floor you just get yours ears blasted and they didn't have earplugs (and I'm too irresponsible to bring my own). So I spent the first part of Cog's set on the floor, the second half sitting too high up, and finished standing at the steps about halfway up. Aside from all this Cog always delivers.
The first band on the night was The Fumes which I almost took an instant dislike to because they were a 2 piece and I have a major allergy to the White Stripes. But within 2 songs I found myself liking them because the only thing they have in common with the White Stripes really is the fact they haven't got a bass player (and the fact they've both got a bluesy edge)
The second band (Grand Fatal)... all I'll say is .. I don't get the emo/hardcore thing at all
Am I too old or did these guys just suck? I noticed most of the crowd wished they'd turn it down. Lots of us retreated to the bar (like me
)
One other thing that pissed me off was how you always seem to get people who go to gigs and get agro on the floor. And they get surprised when they're told to tone it down too. Maybe they don't get the fact that some people can't enjoy the show while getting slammed into and copping elbows to the back of the head. Most of the crowd wasn't moshing, so to the 5 people that were ... you're a bunch of fucking tossers (what are the odds they'll read this?). They got thrown out so I'm kind of happy.
In other news .. I was walking down the street today and found $10! I really needed it too .. what are the odds?
OH yeah .. and if you missed it last time .. don't forget to check out our friend Michael Angelo ... The Guitar God of the century!!!

ps. i dig the hardcore / emo thing, aka screamo...
The Sunnyboys are all about the first album, with the blue cover. If you see it in a shop - and it's usually about $10 - pick it up. It's well worth it. It's incredible. Really truly ruly.
