I saw your post on the music board...I associate the term with Sunny Day Real Estate. I'm sure there were other bands around at the time but that's the one I can remember...anyway, that was about 10-12 years ago...m....

So yeah, I'm agreeing with you. I think "emo" has broadened out to refer to any music that sounds "screamy/shouty", hence references to "The Used", "Lostprophets"...and now there's a "look" associated with it so it has become a fashion term...
