Well, I finally admitted defeat and reformatted my hard drive yesterday. I've got my browser working again and now begins the task of reloading my programs and data.
At least, I resisted the temptation to spend money on more computer stuff! It was very tempting to shitcan the whole thing and just purchase a new system. But I held my ground against the dreaded credit card. (That little piece of plastic can be quite pursuasive, sometimes.)
