As I don't know many people on here, you probably wouldn't know that my girlfriend is a type 1 diabetic. We are participating in the 2006 Walk to Cure Diabetes as the Miotto Family Team, to help raise money for type 1 diabetes research.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. Around 140,000 Australian children and adults live with this incurable, chronic disease.
An individual with type 1 diabetes needs up to six insulin injections every day, just to stay alive, as well as multiple finger prick blood sugar tests.
That's why I am walking - to help find a cure. Please support me and our team in helping people with type 1 diabetes.
