When I was much younger, I idolized Clark, who owned and ran LaPlace's only bookstore. Most of the kids who hung out at the Book Cellar idolized Clark and we would gather around listening to his "Clark-lectures." For an example of a Clark-lecture in popular media, watch the Wayne's World movie for the scene where Alice Cooper discusses the origin of the name Milwaukee. It...

hmmm should I, as a woman find John Carter misogynistic?

I don't.

He's irresistable. I just can't help myself. I know, I know... but they were written quite some time ago, and reflect the mindset of those days.

I've yet to read much Burroughs myself. I'm a huge fan Howard's Conan, but you're right, he's a true misogynist. Of course Robert Howard was by all accounts an abusive alcohilic with inner demons that would have scared must of us shittless, so there ya go.

It's interesting to reflect on the things that we let inform our choices and attitudes in life. Just remember that while honoring the past, be mindful of the present.

Today wasn't a productive day from my normal standpoint of productive. I read something for class, but only lightly. I have to go over it again because I don't think I got enough out of it and I'm supposed to write 600 words on it before Thursday. My bass is still in her case from being transported yesterday. My amp isn't even plugged in anyway....

When the band was all together yesterday, I didn't practice, mostly because I needed to get some work done on a paper. Today, I took some advice from Damien and spent about an hour working on scales and just playing around, trying to really get comfortable with the instrument. It's something of a challenge, really. Scales are more rewarding than I've heard some people give...

can you feel the sutures of the bones in your skull slowly trying to shift apart to accomodate your expanding intellect?
I love how philosophy is like having a brain orgasm...
that strange warm throbbing sensation that you get in your head when you just barely start to grasp some obscure concept for a split second...
and how it taunts you...
coming and going...
you feel it lurking just around the corner...

oh wait...
there it is again...

here i go again....

... sorry... i've gone off on a bit of a tangent, haven't I

We went to Z'otz for the first time since coming back. It was pretty nice, actually. We got to hang out with a lot of people, some of them new people, and most of them good people. The best part is that I got some work done after coming home from class, so it wasn't like I was putting off homework to do it.

I...

Got a good bit of work done today, so I'm not going to push myself to do any more. I have both short papers for this week written, and I have something to post about on the blackboard group tomorrow. I've got more reading to do, but nothing that can't get done tomorrow.

We skipped the department picnic today, partly because we stayed up really...

Just finished watching Empire Strikes Back, then I banged out a 600 word paper for next week. I still have to edit it, possibly a good bit since it just sort of peters off before ending, but the substantial work is out of the way. Hopefully, despite the fact that I'm going to a grad student talk tomorrow, I can read the other section...

I actually managed to get a good bit of work done this weekend. I have most of my reading for this week done, and I don't have to do too much in the way of writing. I think I have something to say on the discussion board, which is pretty much all of the writing for the week. To celebrate, I decided to enjoy some...

School is fucking exhausting. I've been working on and off for the past few days. Today, I wrote the other 600 word paper due this week, then edited the first one. After that I finished up some reading for my seminar tomorrow night and posted something reasonable incoherent on the discussion board. Just not enough of the book was sinking in, so I feel like...

Keep on it man. You'll plow through all this. And you'll feel great about afterward.

Thanks for all the good thoughts of late.
sophronia:
you are very cool indeed.

and I, am not getting much homework accomplished due to my repeated logging into this site... *sigh*

too bad that you didn't decide to come out here for school.

have a nice day.

I began work on the first of two 600 word papers I have to turn in next week. I got all of the content down, I'm just working on editing it back down to 600 words or so. I ended up about double that, but I think there was some redundancy in what I said.

I took a little break from that to meet with...
