Happy 4/20 Everyone!

In other news, my term (semester) finished up last Friday. There are still technically exams and whatnot, but, I've handed in all of my work. I still need to work on my thesis proposal; it needs to be handed in by the end of April, so I need to get a draft out sometime tomorrow or early Friday to show to my potential supervisor. Since I'm working off of a term paper I just wrote and the grant proposal I wrote back in September, it shouldn't be too tough. I know how bitchy those things are to write, having also written a few personal statements for grad school. Still, I'm not too worried because I ought to get feedback on this one, and I think I have a clear idea of what I'm going to be doing.

I'm talking to one of the professors about a summer job organizing the department reading room. He hasn't gotten back to me yet, but if I get it, it'll mean having some extra cash in the summer to supplement my loan checks (whatever those end up being).

We've started some spring cleaning, but we both still need to do our FAFSAs for loans this coming year. I still haven't heard about that grant, but they said they would tell us in May. I'll admit that I'm holding out some hope even though I know it's a long shot. The Masters students all got the other grant (the one only Canadians can apply for), so I'm hoping that mine will ride their success. Regardless, I know it's a long shot, so I'm not keeping my hopes up, I just haven't given up on getting it like I thought I would. I expected to just hand it in as an exercise and not worry about it, but I'm still thinking I have a shot. I think most of that comes from the fact that the department asked me to revise it, meaning that they thought there was something worthwhile enough to send to the next round of evaluation; they didn't just can it and tell me that they canned it. When you submit to a journal, you can be rejected, told to revise and resubmit, or accepted. You want to be accepted, but getting a revise and resubmit tells you that you have potential. I expected a rejection, but got a revise and resubmit. Additionally, i got som ok feedback on a paper last term, and I think both term papers I handed in were stronger than the one I was told might be publishable with some work.

Whether I write a thesis or not, I have organize my schedule for next term so that I have more time to be active in the department. This term, I had TA duties which prevented me from going to the weekly colloquia, so I just felt kinda distant from everyone else and didn't got to stuff I could have gone to either. Anyway, I have summer now to get more reading done and prepare myself for next year.
