In my not-quite-awake state, I decided that it would be a good idea to write a paper for my class on Thursday. Since the articles at hand are short, and the paper isn't too long, I figured this shouldn't be a problem. After all, I've gotten a good bit done already. At this point, I've read both articles, and I'm letting it sink in a bit before I get started with the writing. I've got other writing and reading to deal with as well, so I'm not trying to impose too much order on the enterprise.

Today, we decided to go to the French Quarter to see about Tara's ring. As we walked up Decatur, I got hit with this feeling of being outside of time. There was a little girl playing the fiddle across the street, gutter punks sleeping in doorways, the rain, the grey sky, and the old buildings. All of this came together in a very cinematic way, and I spent a good bit of time drinking it in. We got the shop where the ring was made and asked about re-sizing it. The guy recommended that Tara could stand to gain more weight since the adjustment would be small and only required intermittently, like when it got really, really cold which it did in Vancouver far more than it does here. He suggested we just smoke more pot so she gets the munchies more often. He was really sweet and funny about it, so she decided he was right, especially since it felt fine today, so she's just going to start wearing it again, and maybe take it off during a cold snap. The shop had a set of black stone bat chimes, just like the ones we bought there a while back. Ours had broken in shipping twice, so we bought a new set.

After that, we walked down to Cafe du Monde for beignets. Tara got chocolate milk, and I got cafe au lait. There were some buskers singing very mellow, almost jazzy tunes, and the timelessness of the city came over me again. I felt like I was sitting in a movie of some kind, watching the rain, listening to the music and feeling the age of my surroundings.

Now that we're home, we're tired from the walk, which is odd because it wasn't much of a walk. We're also hungry, so I'm going to warm up some chili to fill the void before I get back to work. I'm hoping to muster the energy to go to Z'otz later since I don't have class tomorrow. We just have to go to the launderette and make some groceries. I'm debating whether to bring work to Z'otz or not. If I do, it will be writing since I don't require as much concentration for that as I do for reading.

All in all, a pretty fucking good day.
