Tara reminded me today that we only have about two weeks until we leave. There's nothing especially left undone that can't be done between now and then. We're right on track, but I didn't realize how close it was.

In other news, Ed gave us his old Gamestation, so I guess our slack goes up by 5. I downloaded and burned Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (I don't think I've seen a Gamestation without a mod chip outside of Wal-Mart), and that's been relatively fun. I haven't had my own console since Super Nintendo. Between PC games and reading, I haven't especially missed console gaming, but it's one more distraction, and there are games that came out for Gamestation that didn't come out for PC or at least don't need to take up space on my PC.

I've downloaded all episodes of the new season of Doctor Who so far, and out of the four, the most recent was absolutely incredible. The first three didn't really do anything for me, and I found myself thinking that maybe the show really needs to move back to old serial format because each episode seemed far too rushed. The fourth episode, however, turned all of that around. "Girl in the Fireplace" took advantage of its length, using it to fuel the story in a way I hadn't especially seen before, forcing a different perspective on old themes. Furthermore, it was the first episode of the entire renewal of the series in which the Doctor was the main character, not the companions. As much as I like Rose, she has had far too much screen time and far too much of that screen time as the focal character. It made sense for her to be there to hook new people into the series, in the same way that Ian and Barbara did in the first season, but it's high time the Doctor took center stage, and I'm glad he finally has.
