I applied to the SGPA group, which is one of the groups that requires you have a blog update, so I am writing one. I never understood why there are groups that require blog entries. Is this site big on spam? Is it indicitive that I am going to be a better group member if I am someone who keeps complete strangers abreast of my life?

I think it's just so they know you're active on the site and not just some big creep--more part of the SG community.

It is indeed so that they can see that you are going to be an active member of the community. Your journals don't have to be intimate or even have anything to do with your life! Cat pictures will do.
