Title: Watching it Burn...
That's it. It's official. As of now, all first contact plans with any of the Calgary SG'ers have been postponed until further notice.
Why? I have partially witnessed on these boards the messy and extremely horrific breakup between two SG members, Leningrad and Lotus. The end result, Leningrad has been exiled from SG, and from the string of people who have come to support Lotus, he would be unwise to come back.
A shame when real life mixups spill over on the board. Now Leningrad's reputation is forever blotched with a huge black mark. This led me to think over meeting any of the SG'ers offline.
I have severely underestimated the effect of real life encounters with these people. If I screw up... game over. Worse, it'll be known all over this community. The security knowing that they know only what you reveal to the online populace is gone. If you give a person in real life reason to be mad at you, your dirty laundry gets aired out into the online community, and before you know it you're a leper on SG.
Therefore, I will have stay in my little duck blind that is my online handle Lord_Shade, wait it out, and see what happens next. And if it feels safe to do so, then I will ask to make first contact with the Calgary SG'ers.
And I will watch my conduct very carefully from here on in.
I would still like to meet these people, however. It's too bad. Leningrad would have been the first I contacted, considering that he shows up regularly at one of my regular haunts. But with all that's going on, I'll have to think it over some more.
Meanwhile, I hope peace will reign on the boards once more. And hope that Lotus finds what she is looking for.
