Title: I Would Lose my Head (If it Wasn't Shoved up my Ass...)

It's official. D&D is gross. Like a leper, the major RPG fan in SG, Leningrad, has turned me away. First contact with Malloreigh has soured, even more so because she's a... STAR WARS FAN!!!!!!!

Naw, it's all in good humour. Though emotion is hard to guage on journals and boards, I sure hope they don't think i'm really that gross. I saw an entry on the board, and Malloreigh is joking with me.

She's cool, by the way.

And in defence of my bona-fide geekhood, I do play things other than D&D. GURPS was my first intro to RPG's and that was fun (though I didn't like the lack of hit points in conjunction with those ultra powerful firearms...). I also played Vampire the Masquerade with Aya and company A(a good game, but stuck in one gameworld, and limited in its own right). And yesterday, I had a great game of Heroes Unlimited (almost any hero you can think of, and the action is great!). Then there's the tabletop games, like Warhammer, but I won't go into that, considering RPG'ers don't consider those games to be on their radar...

So in defense, i'm not stuck with just D&D. And D&D is a good system. Not the best, but definately good. If you want a good RPG where realism is not a pressing concern (and frankly, it's RPG's, full of vampires and black ops and monsters... why do we need an excessive amount of realism?). Besides, the system it runs doesn't make the game. It's the DM or GM's creativity and plots that make the game exciting. You can have a sub-par system, but if you have an engrossing gameworld and a masterful GM, it's all good.

Enough about that. I should tell you all about my fun times playing Heroes Unlimited at the Sentry Box yesterday.

So far, we are a team of superheroes in the city of Calgary (familiar backdrop makes for easy navigation and playing), and the Alien menace is upon us. We at the Institute of the Idiotically Insane (or 3 Eye) are sent to tackle the threat. Our team of super heroes are the following:

-The Librarian. That's my character, a female, timid history major with a magic longsword. The longsword turns her into what looks like a female Knight of the Crusades. She has supernatural strength, healing, tongues, mystic shielding and flight... but must have the sword to do it! She's the close combat fighter of the group, and the strongest puncher.

-Cockroach. She's a 7 year old supergenius with invulnerability powers, super strength, and flight. She wants to be called Nine Lives because she sees herself as an ultra cute girl in a halloween cat costume. We call her Cockroach because she won't die.

-Sonic. Yes, an alien, blue, with spikes. Familiar? He should be. He can run at mach speeds and shoot laser beams. He's also incredibly stupid (more on that later)

-Modular Man. Another fighter, might be alien. Has bionic arms that house weapons. Really sweet. We call him Modo for short

-Mega Boy! An android with a energy cannon of unknown origin. Definately not from our techlevel! Now you know why he's called Mega Boy.

-Quickice. He has ice powers. 'Nuff said.

-The Wall! His specialty is creating forcefields that even my character has a hard time breaking. He is, in my opinion, the most vital man in our group. He provides the group's defenses, and in a pinch he has Colt Pythons.

-The Alamo, a walking tank of a man on a Chopper. His skin turns to metal, and he carries huge weapons. He uses 50. cal machine guns (they are normally mounted on American tanks) as weapons. And to be the most devastating hitter in the group, he also carries around a 90 mm recoiless rifle. OUCH!

Anyways, we were called out to fight this new threat. A regenerating monster with super strength was rampaging across Calgary's downtown, tearing into apartment buildings and eating the juicy, hapless humans inside. Librarian (me) and Alamo were first to arrive, then the others came. After evacuating as many people as we can, I charged in, sword versus... his arms, which morphed into spikes. We tussle until Mega-boy blasts the creature, and I spin out of the way. Then Quickice tries to encase the creature in an ice barrier.

No such luck. The creature has fire barriers. But it turned out to be a short combat, because while we laid into that creature with all the assault rifle, sword slashes, energy beams and snowballs that we could, Alamo went over to his chopper...

And brought out the recoiless rifle! He scored a direct hit and blew a hole threw it's mutated chest! Then I hacked it's head off to be sure it wouldn't get up! We thought about burning the corpse, because at the moment it was regenerating. But with the cops coming in, we settled for freezing the corpse (compliments of quickice) and burning the head (thanks to Sonic).

Since my character was the strongest in the group, she was given the task of taking the corpse. We flew back to 3 Eye headquarters as fast as possible. The ice was melting on the corpse, but I didn't pay it much mind. We thought it was dead.

I was wrong a second later, when the damn creature stabbed me. In a panic, my character balled her fist and laid on the corpse the heaviest punch she could muster. She hit with the force of a bazooka, leaving a shockwave of air and concussive force where her punch landed, and managed to get the creature off.

Because of that action, my character yelled for help, being stabbed and all. Alamo came back with his trusty recoiless rifle. Mega boy came in and charged his energy cannon. But here's where it all went wrong.

Sonic, our speedy guy, can run at Mach 1. Boys and girls, what happens when something goes faster than Mach 1? It leaves a shockwave, and it does much damage. Because I was in trouble, our errant member ran as fast as he could, from the downtown area to the suburbs where my character was in trouble. It left a trail of devastation, such as broken windows, upturned cars and scores of injured that ecliped the damage done by the villain!

After Sonic arrived, Alamo gave the creature another taste of his cannon, turning the creature into shreads. Then Mega boy charged up his cannon, and disintegrated the beast.

No wonder we're called the Institute of Insane Idiots...
