Title: Valentine's Day. Overrated?
What a beautiful night it was when I was working. Fog so thick you could almost stir it. Considering it was a pea soup fog that is usually seen by the ocean, and Calgary is landlocked and far away from any huge bodies of water, it is really something else to see. It had almost an ethereal quality to it, as if it was artificial, created by something else. It was the type of fog that one would expect creatures and other horror things would go bump in the night in.
Was it a coincidence that it was friday the 13th?
I'll let you all decide.
But now i'm in the middle of what I would like to call one screwed up holiday. Valentine's day. The one day of the year where love, in mostly it's mushy, man and woman holding hands in a flower filled pasture, is celebrated.
Honestly, why do we need to celebrate that? I find it obnoxious enough that media tells me I should have sex a dozen times a day, or that the next supermodel is screwable. Bad enough that lovers everywhere have to make it known every other day that they love each other, without regard for the fact that there are lonely types such as myself whom don't feel like seeing such blatant displays of affection due to the fact that it reminds us that they have something we don't....
But to dedicate a day towards it?
Come on! Lovers don't need a whole day for it! They have their entire lives to express their love! They can give flowers and candy and dinners and all sorts of romantic stuff any other day of the year. Love and romance should be continual, and celebrated whenever the need fits. We don't need an entire day in the year dedicated to it.
So to those lovers, though it pains me to see you like this, I also realize that it's just me. I don't like to be reminded that I have nobody for now. It shouldn't stop you all from doing something nice for the guy or girl in your life.
Just don't remind us about it, if it can be helped.
And don't just be a total idiot and not do a damn thing until Valentine's day.
Oh, and to shout out to all the lovers out there... don't go breaking someone's heart on this day either. That's just damn cruel. You might as well be Hitler or Vlad the Impailer in my mind. Nothing's more heinous than dumping or rejecting a person on the day dedicated to love. It just has that more psychological sting. So really, i'm serious. Don't do it.

Nice to see someone else who considers Esthero a hidden gem. Did you know she's releasing a new album this spring? (about damn time!)
