Last night, I just saw a concert experience that is almost guaranteed to overshadow any other show I will ever see. It was in St. Paul, Minnesota, on the Vote For Change tour, and the bill was Bright Eyes, R.E.M. and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, with special guest John Fogerty. Even typing that brings shivers, because even as fantastic as the lineup sounds, the reality was so much better. Also, they brought out a secret guest for this show, the talented Mr. Neil Young, who I guess was just in the area. In a word, holyfuckingshit. Even Bright Eyes, whom I'd never heard before, was really good. The rest were amazing, especially Bruce Springsteen. There were song cameos and covers all over the place, too. Maybe the most amazing thing was when everyone, and I do mean everyone on the bill, got up on stage for one of the last songs, which was Elvis Costello's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding." It set the mood of the whole event, in my mind, and was also fantastic in its own right. I'm kind of saddened, though, that it will probably never be topped. But hell, it was maybe even worth 4 years of Bush.

Okay, not really. But it'll be one of the the few silver linings on the fucking maelstrom of bullshit that was the W presidency. Now let's just get that worthless, clueless, brainless son of a bitch clean out of office. I think The Boss said it best, "I'm hoping for a landslide, but I'll settle for a victory."
