Ooohhh manard! Yet another exciting week filled with more chemistry class, anti inflammitories, and anxiety about finding a place in SF. I had a pretty enjoyable weekend I guess. I gave my friend a mixtape I have been working on for sometime. It was one of those in which every song on there had to fit and nothing was just thrown on there as filler. It was really a labor of love...really, I'm serious. Complete with atmospheric interludes made with a Talkboy (you know that thing from "Home Alone") and record manipulation.

Track list: (sans all the artsy sounds in between tracks)
A)
the Beatles - A day in the life
the Walkmen - Thats the punchline
Bright Eyes - Black Comedy
the Clash - Lost in the supermarket
Bright Eyes - Spring cleaning
Morrissey - The world is full of crashing bores
Radio Berlin - How fast can you run
Moving Units - Between us and them
New Order - Leave me alone
Elliott Smith - No name #1

B)
Interpol - Interlude
Joy Division - Atmosphere
Radio Berlin - The hypen
New Order - Age of Consent
Modest Mouse - The View
the Walkmen - Wake Up
M.Ward - Water under the bridge
Iron and Wine - Each coming night
The Swans - God damn the sun
Elliott Smith - Fond Farewell

Yeah, I broke the mixtape rule of only one song per artist. So anyway whatever

The Broken Spindles show on Saturday was really cool also. Since the album was basically the work of one guy, Joel Peterson of the Faint, it couldn't all be played live so some of it was pre-programmed while the rest was played by Peterson on keyboard and guitar, and there was a big projection screen with a video that went with the entire set to make up for the lack of action on stage. There are some people, both male and female, that just totally facinate me sometimes in the fact that they are so exccentric in a totally subtle way that I can't take my eyes off them. This Joel Peterson guy was one of those people. During the other bands sets he was working the merch table, which was along the wall next to the stage, and I kept glancing over there seeing him folding his shirts and setting out his albums in the most perfectionist/compulsive way. He moved like Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas, only moving and picking up things with his index fingers and thumbs. Plus he seemed really out of place, not talking to many people. I wondered how it must be to be on the road in a one man band... surreal He caught me looking once or twice so I'm sure he thought I was "checking him out".

I don't know why I just relayed that story. I guess I could have just left it with "it was a good show".

Well, I'll be back up there again looking for a place this weekend. We are having trouble finding a place that will be cool with two people living in a one bedroom. It is the most I'll be able to afford while going to school and most of the places around SFSU are "inlaws" so it will be hard to hide the fact that there are two people living in a one bedroom when the landlord lives on the property with you whatever . Our plan is to see if they are cool with "couples" in a one bedroom...it sounds better than "two college guys" moving in. And if I have to kiss my roommate in front of the landlord to seal the deal...so be it tongue

p.s. Thank you for the kind words in response to my last entry. kiss kiss Things have been a little better so at least I'll have had a little positive break to carry me through before I crash again. robot

Glad to see that you are feeling a bit better. I've had knee problems for the past ten years or so, but nothing even close to your troubles.
I'm pretty jealous about the Broken Spindles show... it happened one week too soon! mad Oh well, next time, I suppose... Here's something that you'll enjoy: Three new Faint tunes! Can't wait for the new album...

I hope you find a place this weekend! You should scour ads for "roomate wanted"; that way you know that it probably isn't an in-law apartment, and you'd probably have a better chance to swaying people to let you guys move in. Especially if there are fellow students living there. Or try looking for studio apartments, I think some are in the 700-900 dollar range, if you can afford that. Or just try squatting in various vacant houses. It's totally bohemian!
