Apartment woes, or "how to get soo irrated at your landlady that you decide to find another apartment"
Last weekend I had the landlady's husband come into the apartment and look at the kitchen ceiling (which has needed fixing since 2003 and has not been repaired) - and I also showed him another item that needed to get fixed.
Landlady's husband told me that they'd need my stuff out of the kitchen and I told him Im not going to put the stuff in the driveway and I do not see why I should pay for storage (when it is their fault the ceiling needs to be fixed (a pipe leaked in jan '03 and while they fixed the leak in the upstiars apartment, they never fixed my ceiling). I told him i'd have to find another apartment. He leaves and about 15 minutes later he comes back asking if I'd be willing to put my stuff into the unused office (which is in front of the bldg). I agree, and he tells me that he'd have the key for me within the week. I waited up for him to bring the key every day-- he did not bring it.
This past weekend he comes around for the rent and I ask him about it. He then tells me that they are trying to find the previous maintenance guy because he still has a key to the unused office. (they have had a new guy working for them for at least a month now -- and he has been here to fix fuses in the basement)
***After he leaves I think about it and wonder why they do not just change the lock on the unused office sicne they cannot locate the old maintenance person. (my gut feeling is that they are stalling me)
So, later on Saturday (around 2 pm) I notice that there is a leak in the kitchen ceiling now -- this time above my kitchen sink.
I called the landlady's number and left it on the machine. Then, after it looked like it was gfetting worse, I called again and left another message.
Saturday/Sunday/Monday all go by with not so much as a phone call or even stopping by to check it out.
Then today, I notice that landlady's sister going in and out of the unused office.
I am trying my darndest to find another apartment, but my criteria does limit me: * needs to have utilities included * Needs to be first floor * Needs to have off street parking
These things are not negotiable, as I want good friends to be able to visit (not to mention getting groceries into an apartment on the first floor is a lot easier than trying to get to a forth floor (or worse :eek )
Utililties need to be included because me being single means I am a poor ass (along with being a bad ass
)
And off street parking is a must- since in the winter many places will either ticket you/ tow you/ or plow into your vehicle if it is on the side of the road when it snows.
I cannot wait to get another apartment: I really need a different one, and frankly I have been as patient as I could possible could be-- considering that the kitchen ceiling needed fixing since 2003. AND -- in 2005 they finally fixed the parlor ceiling that was ruined in 2002 when snow caused it to leak and peel right where the ceiling light is.
