I've got a job interview... with my ex-boyfriend. This will be interesting.

No one at the company knows we know each other, and he assures me he's leaving soon and we won't be working together. But still, interesting.

You can also karate chop him if he gets out of line. But if his first question is "Honey, where did I go wrong?" and starts sobbing, then just hand him a tissue, tell him to get a life, and then get out (ha ha).

But if this is a job you really want, I hope you get it and that things will be o.k. considering.

Sounds promising. Best of luck.

Ahem. Let's just say that I was very happy with my date the other night.

I also had a pretty fun interaction at a bar, which never happens to me, because I rarely go to bars, because I don't drink much and I tend to dislike the typical bar atmosphere. But I met this South Korean guy who had done his required military training and...

They make awesome roomies. They are clean and indipendent.

I'm glad you're having such nice experiences these days. You deserve them.

The reason Kathy gave me for cancelling only made a little sense. It had to do with the way I identify in the lifestyle and what she needed from me if we got together. It's complicated, but it didn't make much sense since I knew what she wanted in our anticipated roleplay and was sure I could give it to her.

I know this is vague, but let's just say her reason for cancelling sounded pretty lame.

I have another date tonight. Same guy. I need to have sex. Wish me luck.

Like you're gonna need it

Good luck. I can relate to the sex thing. An opportunity may present itself tonight.

Plans for an eventual new, more stable job are coming along. I think I'll dedicate this summer, or part of it, to getting TESOL certified. Although I've been teaching at a school for non-native speakers, I'm actually not certified. Once I am, I'll have a lot more job opportunities, here and abroad.

Edited to add something unrelated:

Tonight I'll be hanging out with some people,...

I've gone out with the same guy a few times now, and I'm rather starting to like him. The age difference is more than I've done before-- he's 12 years older-- but I think it's good. He has a better idea of what he wants out of life than most of the guys I've dated who are closer to my age. And it's fun being...

I think you have the right attitude about the person you're seeing. I'm in a somewhat similar situation. Things are good so far so I'm trying not to project too much into the future.

It seems like you're trying to do the same. I sincerely hope this works out for you.

I left my Ph.D. program. Not officially yet, but I told my advisor I was leaving, and from here it's just formalities. I'll finish teaching this semester, and then I'll be free.

What's next? I can add hours at my ESL job, and I can adjunct. I'll probably go for TESOL certification and stay with that path. Maybe go work in another country. Or I've...

ooooh... dissillusioned grad student! We should be friends!

Yeah both my husband and I are; he llikes his research, I switched to a course-based program to escape mine. My sister-in-law recently had a disaster with her anthropolgy PhD. We're a fun bunch at Sunday dinners.

Everyone calls my new boss "Mama," which I find hilarious.

Anyway, at the beginning of last night, she told me she might be putting my friend and I on call, meaning we won't be guaranteed nights every week. That would suck. However, I did very well at the club last night, having a room of guys ask specifically for me and then requesting to take...

That does sound like a pretty fantastic evening. Hope she sees how valuable you obviously are and doesn't do anything stupid. (Like putting you on call)

I'm worried my friend and I will get fired from our hostessing gigs because of the stigma against tattoos in Japanese culture. Oh well. It will all get figured out somehow.

I left my incredibly inconvenient tutoring job, and I'm glad I did that regardless of what happens with the hostess club.

I'm also thinking of leaving my Ph.D. program, and I'm going to talk...

Cover them with makeup. I saw a documentary once about tattoos in Japan...they spoke to a school principal who had his whole body covered in ink. He spent the better part of every morning covering them up, but no one ever hassled him.
wsoxfan:
No sense worrying about something you have no control of referring to the tattoos.

Definitely speak to your advisor. This sounds like a big step and should have a lot of thought put into your decision. I know you'll ultimately do what's best for you.

I have now worked at the hostess club twice and talked mostly with three customers. One wanted to tell me how much he hates Japanese culture, one wanted me to sit next to him and then ignore me, and one was one of my ESL students. This job will prove to be very interesting.

If any of you lives in or travels to NYC and...

Forget about doing it in New York for hundreds of dollars... Do it in Portland for hundreds of cents. I can afford hundreds of cents. blackeyed

I'd love to see what goes on there! but hundreds of dollars, no way. I'll just have to be content with your reports and the dictionary definition of "decadence" instead of the living exhibit you're inhabiting.
