In the face of the economic crisis, the U.S. and Russian governments seem to be doing a similar thing: providing financial support to failing companies and industries and, as a result, gaining some control over those companies and industries. But it's amazing how subjective journalism can be. The following excerpts are from the New York Times.

from "Detroit Bailout Is Set to Bring On...

Don't worry about wishing you knew what to say. You actually always seem to know exactly what to say. Most of all, I greatly appreciate your attention and concern.

The fact that you're a New Yorker has a special significance based on my recent experiences with other New Yorkers I've met through SG which have been mostly disappointing, to put it mildly. More importantly, I'm trying (very unsuccessfully, so far) to deal with the sudden and unexplained severance of a relationship with a certain SG member that I've known from before either of us joined SG. This is someone I cared very much for and loved deeply as a human being. She recently cut off all communication with me. She has ignored my pleas for an explanation, which makes the situation much more unbearable. If I only knew the reasons behind her decision, I could possibly have some closure. I hate to believe it, but the way she's chosen to handle the situation seems intentionally cruel on her part. That's the part that baffles me and hurts the most.

Anyway, I always appreciate your concern and wisdom. I hope you don't have a problem with unburdening myself with what I wrote above. There was actually a lot more on my mind about this, but I feel it wasn't something to put out there in a public forum. Perhaps I said too much already.

In all fairness, the person who was the main focus of my post directly above wound up contacting me yesterday. Her message to me was a bittersweet one. It made me feel better for the most part, just by the fact that she made it possible for me to understand things that were on her mind.

Suprisingly, about half of my current Composition class has opted to take me for Close Reading next semester. I hope this means I'm a good teacher, not that I'm just an easy teacher or something.

Jesus Christ--cabbage in jello! Is that some kind of demented Irish/southern hybrid?

Although right now some kim chi with jello sounds pretty good.

This first holiday without my grandmother has been difficult. Two hours ago, my family put up the Christmas tree, and as my grandfather and I started harmonizing Christmas carols, we realized how quiet we had been all day. So I suppose this year I am grateful for music. Even though I don't perform anymore, music is still one of the few things that always feels...

Music is good. It heals.

Holidays are especially difficult when it's spent without the loved ones that are no longer with us, except in spirit. I know how you feel, this being the first Thanksgiving without your grandma. I still feel the effect holidays have on me due to the loss of my wife. This was my fourth Thanksgiving without her.

It was heartwarming to read how you and your grandfather shared your time together earlier today.

Take care.

I'm going to a party tonight near campus, and I fully intend to wear pasties and not much else. Here's hoping I won't run into any of my students, 'cause... awkward!

Hot!

Yeah I'm down for lunch anytime but my schedule is weird. I think Mondays and Thursdays I have an hour at 1140 and otherwise I have only 40 minutes at 1240.

I also want to do wine and cheese when I get settled at my new place. smile

It'll be done by tomorrow. The legal implications are interesting, even if you don't really care about the political side of it.

In my opinion there is nothing to be done about the request for a new certificate, the local authorities can't, won't and should not do it because legally they are prohibited from doing so. I expect the Supreme Court to declare that this prohibition is unconstitutional, though.

How did the grading go?

I started writing poems again, and I looked back over old stuff and realized that I didn't write for two years, during the worst phase of my eating disorder. Wow. I guess I've made a lot of progress.

I've always loved to write. I've found that attenpting to write poetry is a very difficult task as far as I'm concerned. I admire your ability to do that.

Ae we going to be able to sample some of it? I'm sure it would be great.
ferretbite:
No but this one is even creepier. It's in the face. You'll see. smile

I'm sick of this Ph.D. stuff. I kind of want to be a makeup artist. Or a flight attendant.
