I'm worried my friend and I will get fired from our hostessing gigs because of the stigma against tattoos in Japanese culture. Oh well. It will all get figured out somehow.

I left my incredibly inconvenient tutoring job, and I'm glad I did that regardless of what happens with the hostess club.

I'm also thinking of leaving my Ph.D. program, and I'm going to talk to my advisor about it tomorrow.

Cover them with makeup. I saw a documentary once about tattoos in Japan...they spoke to a school principal who had his whole body covered in ink. He spent the better part of every morning covering them up, but no one ever hassled him.

No sense worrying about something you have no control of referring to the tattoos.

Definitely speak to your advisor. This sounds like a big step and should have a lot of thought put into your decision. I know you'll ultimately do what's best for you.
